iVote, the iPhone voting app, shows results from a recent poll regarding New Orleans, the city below sea-level, should be restored. 53% of users around the world say to rebuild.
Within the United States itself voters are very much the same at 52%. However as you dig deeper the results become more varied. In the state of California , who submitted the most votes, only 30% say NO to rebuilding.
Neighboring Texas voters were closer to the global average with 45% saying rebuild.
Most users chimed in with some great ideas. The iVote team agreed most with the user “Blootered” who suggested they “redesign it. stop fighting the water (nature always wins). … make it a ghetto-riffic version of venice”.

here’s the thing, New Orleans was a magical place with a lit of history and beautiful sights but when you stand on the street, look out at the horizon and see an ocean liner at a higher vantage point there must have been poor cognition when it came to the lay out of the city. At this point most don’t even want to go back and I agree that when you try and fight nature, 100% of the time you’ll lose. If it’s possible to make a “ghetto-riffic Venice” not using our tax money, then I’m all for it. However, I think it would just be much smarter to give New Orleans some tax exempt and allow them to use all that land to create mass wind farms or a nature reserve.
