iVote User Banning and Terms of Service

by on November 12, 2008, 4:58 pm

The iVote iPhone application has been a tremendous success.

We are ecstatic about our rapid growth and diverse user base.

However, as with any popular discussion forum, there are those users that:

*Can’t discuss topics civilly

*Make childish comments

*Use vulgarity

*Use hate speech

*Make useless “first” comments

*Spam or flame discussion topics.

We have begun actively banning iVote users who engage in those activities. The bans are permanent to your phone’s ID.

We ask that you please use iVote in a responsible and civil way. iVote is not a chat room.

We encourage civil disagreement, but obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or childish excessive commenting will not be tolerated.

iVote also wants to remind users that the iVote Mobile images and name are trademarked. Please do not use our images on private forums, websites or any medium without our consent.

iVote will be posting a full terms of service shortly to help deal with these issues.

Until then.. please use iVote responsibly

i think mild swearing is okay, but if someone says “first” and nothing else, they should be given a warning.if they do that again they should be banned

You desperately need more questions which cover other countries than the US. Pan-European questions are all but non existent.

Spam and extreme profanity should result in permanent ban, but First and insulting people should result in a warning being given to the person.

I’ve seen a lot of bad lingo and crap on there the other day. Did anyone get banned because of it? I posted a comment about it, in case the people hadn’t bothered to see how and why you get banned. I think you should post the reasons in the iTunes app store as well as on here, since most people never come to this site.

I have reported many people who were either spamming or being offensive. I know it sounds like I’m whinging about nothing but this is a serious issue. Why havent they been banned yet?

Why do most people refuse to think about IMPORTANT things?

Personally, I find the censorship ridiculous. Fact is, if you walk by any elementary, middle, or secondary school in North America today, you’ll hear far worse than the odd “shit” or “damn” that is automatically censored…almost as though noone reading it in it’s proper contexct will be able to figure out what has really been said.

Sorry folks…but when I see the word “cir***stance” I know both what has been said, and that the censors are quite obviously not paying any attention to what they’re doing, for fear of offending the myriad of weak-minded people who are afraid of any given word.

If you’re afraid of words, you are a fool of the worst possible variety, as you seem so intensely concentrated on whether someone said “hell” that you completely miss the fact that there are REAL ISSUES that DESPERATELY NEED PEOPLE’S ATTENTION!

Censorship is little more than a method of destraction for the weak-minded who are unable to concentrate long enough to understand that the real issues that they are simply not concerned with are the issues that actually matter!

I look at it like sports. I heard a lot of talk at the bar tonight about the hockey game. Many people can recite stats for almost every player on both teams that played tonight. (I can’t.) I asked one of them what he thought about going back to the gold standard as a backing for a sound currency, and he looked at me as though I’d poked him in the eye with a sharp stick!

Fact is…if people don’t wake up soon, and start paying attention to the many things that need serious, prolonged and detailed attention, it’s going to be far too late to do anything…if it isn’t already.

Feel free to ignore all that I’ve just said, and go back to reading your National Enquirer…
